Reports in the Daily Mirror confirm that Spurs were hopeful of signing Mirallas in a straight swap deal for Aaron Lennon, but the Merseyside club rejected the offer – claiming the two players were not of equal value.
Any potential move will now not occur until Monday, which is also transfer deadline day. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is anxious to bring more goals to his team and take some of the pressure off young striker Harry Kane, with Mirallas among a list of potential targets.
Mirallas has scored eight goals this season, but his future at Goodison Park was cast into doubt after a bust-up with teammate Leighton Baines during the 0-0 draw with West Brom.
Reports in the Mirror explain that the winger refused to allow regular penalty taker Baines to take a spot kick, and promptly hit the post with his effort.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Adebayor could go out on loan, but it’s also possible that manager Mauricio Pochettino will choose to keep his options open, with his side still playing in three competitions, including the Europa League, which re-starts next month.
