Southampton remain outsiders for a top four finish despite sitting in third place…

Former Arsenal striker John Hartson has tipped Southampton to finish in the top four and claimed that those assuming that the the South Coast club will slip out of the running could be proved wrong.

Following a turbulent summer where many star players were sold, along with a change in manager and backroom staff, the Saints’ fortunes have proven to be a minor miracle.

Ronald Koeman’s men won at Loftus Road at the weekend to move back into third place and remain very much in the hunt to have a memorable season.

“He (Koeman) has had a fantastic season considering the players he lost. I stuck my neck out a couple of months ago and I think Southampton might just sneak in there,” Hartson told BBC Sport.

Should Southampton occupy one of the two positions behind the inevtiable top two clubs in Man City and Chelsea, the hope for the rest of the Premier League to break the stranglehold the top clubs have on those prized positions will increase.
