The midfielder has been on the treatment table since December following his side’s match with Manchester City, this despite Osman only coming onto the field after the 88th minute.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has highlighted the absence of the 33-year-old as a key reason that his side have struggled to replicate their scintillating form of last season which saw them run Arsenal hard for a top four place.

The club are currently only five points clear of the relegation zone and have just one win in their last five games.

However, a robust showing in the Merseyside derby and a competent display against Chelsea has reignited hopes at Goodison Park that they are finding their form once again.

Everton’s clash with Young Boys on Thursday may come much too soon for Osman but he is expected to feature in a U-21 match this week as he steps up his rehab.
