The Reds captain suffered a hamstring issue during Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Tottenham last week and was missing at the weekend for the Reds tie with Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.

And unfortunately the Liverpool skipper won’t be available against Turkish giants Besiktas which would have added some nice spice to the fixture considering it would be the first time since Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip he would have faced striker Demba Ba once again.

“He won’t have a chance for tomorrow and we just need to assess on a daily basis where Steven is at,” said Rodgers at a pre-match press conference, reports Liverpool’s official website.

The injury could leave Liverpool short in midfield with Lucas Leiva also still on the sidelines.

Another star who won’t face the Turkish club is Lazar Markovic who received a four match ban yesterday for violent conduct.

The Serbian was given a red card against Basel in December during the Champions League group stages and surprisingly received a lengthy ban.

Rodgers says the club has to accept the decision: “We accept the ban and unfortunately he will have to serve that. He obviously won’t be able to contribute for these coming games.

“But in the future he’ll hopefully be able to play many more European games for the club.”
