Feyenoord fans rioted in Rome yesterday following their side’s 1-1 draw in the Europa League with AS Roma, leading to 22 arrests by the Italian police, BBC Sport reports.

The Dutch side were visiting the Italian capital for the first leg of their Europa League last-32 clash, but the meeting has now been marred by this violence and unpleasant scenes.

It has been a bad week for football fans’ reputations, with Chelsea supporters racially abusing a man in the Paris metro station after a game against Paris Saint-Germain.

22 arrests have been made and eight fans charged in the riots in Rome, with government official Livio Ricciardelli calling for Feyenoord to pay for the damage done.
