Henderson is widely expected to take over as club captain when Steven Gerrard leaves Anfield in the summer, but there is now some doubt over a new deal for the midfielder.

Brendan Rodgers is understood to have offered the 24-year-old £80,000 a week to stay on Merseyside, but the player’s representatives believe he could get double that elsewhere.

Meanwhile Milner currently earns £120,000 a week with the Citizens, which is also outside of the Reds’ wage structure, AS Roma are thought to be ready to pounce if the England international doesn’t agree a move to Liverpool.
