As he demonstrated again against Toulouse, no one can match the France international for key passes or assists in Ligue 1.
The likes of Michy Batshuayi, Baptiste Aloe and Andre-Pierre Gignac have all, for different reasons, stolen the headlines since Olympique Marseille’s 6-1 demolition of Toulouse on Friday evening in Ligue 1.
But Dimitri Payet deserves just as much praise as this talented trio.
The France international was quietly influential against Le TFC, contributing an assist, four key passes and completing two successful dribbles.
Indeed, when it comes to making key passes, nobody else in the French top flight comes close to Payet. The attacking midfielder averages 3.7 key passes-per-game, dwarfing the 2.2 averaged by Walid Mesloub, the second most regular key pass contributor in Ligue 1.
Similarly, Payet also leads the Ligue 1’s assists charts. His early pass for Batshuayi’s opener on Friday was his eleventh of the season. Putting that into context, the next best in the division is Nabil Fekir, who has only managed seven.
