Liverpool and Arsenal have tonight edged a step closer to a sensational swap deal involving Raheem Sterling and Theo Walcott, at least according to reports in the Daily Star, who have released this exclusive.

Both players have been linked with potential moves away from their respective clubs, as they haggle over new contracts. The Star believes the Reds would be willing to accept £20m plus Walcott for their prize asset, who wants a big rise on his current £35,000-per-week deal.

Sterling, 20, has previously said that he was ‘flattered’ by Arsenal’s apparent interest in him, while the prospect of Champions League football could also be a crucial factor in any potential move away from Anfield.

Walcott has fallen out of favour at the Emirates Stadium and Arsene Wenger is believed to be prepared to let him go rather than give into his unrealistic demands over a new contract of his own.

The 26-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of next season. He was an unused substitute against Liverpool during the Gunners 4-1 win last weekend and is looking increasingly likely to be sold.
