Twitter slates Steven Gerrard after Liverpool failure in FA Cup semi-final

Liverpool lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi final on Sunday, ruining Steven Gerrard’s chances of playing in the final on his birthday.

To make it worse the Reds skipper had several chances in the last ten minutes to draw things level and perhaps take the encounter to extra time. He only managed a tame effort from a free kick on the edge of the area and had a header cleared off the line by the Villans.

The former England international also looked off the pace in the Merseyside club’s midfield, slowing down moves with ‘Hollywood’ passes and looking very susceptible to the counter attack. This was especially evident as Brendan Rodgers’ side has been looking strong in the middle of the park in recent matches.

Now the 34-year-old has only six games left in his Anfield career, and will be hoping to help his side at least challenge for the Champions League qualification places. However, with the team seven points away from fourth placed Manchester City this may be a tall order.
