The 20-year-old Frenchman has impressed in his role at the heart of the Blues’ defence with some rock like performances, proving his versatility as well as he has played in a holding midfield role in the League Cup final victory along with a host of other strong showings.

Zouma joined in summer from Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne and while his career remains firmly in its early stages, he hopes he can emulate the likes of countryman Marcel Desailly.

Quoted in The Daily Mail, he said, “I think about it. It is a dream for me. I am somebody who dream. I am often compared with Marcel Desailly, but he, he made a great career.

“He is a football legend. He did a lot of big games. I have only just arrived on the scene and I have a lot to prove.”

While the defender has no regrets leaving France at such an early stage of his career, he appreciates that the time it took to bed in at Chelsea, in which he did not play as much as he would have liked, was necessary.
