Barcelona are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign highly-rated young Athletic Bilbao centre-back Aymeric Laporte in the summer transfer window.
The French defender, also rumoured to be a target for Manchester United, according to the Guardian, looks set to become one of the top priority targets for the Catalan giants if they elect Joan Laporta as their new president.
Goal.com claims that Barca are working on a deal to land the promising youngster, who has shone as one of the best defensive players in La Liga in recent times, putting a number of big clubs on alert.
Barcelona look in need of improvements at the back due to a dip in form from Gerard Pique in the last couple of years, while the retirement of club legend Carles Puyol has left them short of options in that department.
Laporte could be the man to fill that gap and looks a good buy for Luis Enrique’s side if they can pull it off.
