Assessing the Championship’s Premier League hopefuls: Watford, Bournemouth and…?

BRENTFORD

Currently sitting in seventh, Brentford is certainly still in with a shot of a playoff spot but will have to rely on other results going its way.

The Bees could jump as high as fifth if Ipswich and Derby lose their respective games against Blackburn and Reading.

With opponents Wigan already relegated, Brentford should be the hungrier of the two sides and there’s no doubt fans at Griffin Park will praying for results to go their way.

Despite the superb performances from the likes of Alan Judge, it’s hard to see Brentford getting into the Premier League even if they do reach the playoffs.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS

Wolves’ only hope of reaching the playoffs is if both Brentford and Derby slip up on the final day.

It’s certainly possible, but not entirely likely.

Kenny Jackett’s side sit two points outside Derby in sixth, but a goal-difference of +12 in comparison to Derby (+32) and Brentford (+16) makes things tough for the men from the Molineux.

So tight is the fight for the final playoff spots, Wolves could potentially jump from eighth to fifth over Ipswich but would require three separate results going its way, plus a eight-goal swing to leapfrog the Blues.

Similarly to Brentford, it’s likely Wolves would simply make up the numbers if they were to somehow sneak into the top six on the final day.
