The France international was dismissed for a second bookable offence on 72 minutes following a foul on Edenilson.

After being sent off, Menez compounded the situation by making ‘insulting gestures’ and a ‘blasphemous expression’ according to ESPN.

As a result of his actions, the playmaker has been hit with a four-match ban, essentially ending his season, as Filippo Inzaghi’s side only have five games left this campaign.

Genoa went on to win the match 3-1, leaving fallen giants Milan in tenth in the Serie A log.

The suspension will come as a major blow both to the club—who can ill-afford the absence of one of their top stars—and the player, who is enjoying something of a purple patch in Italy.

The former AS Roma man has managed 16 goals and four assists in Serie A so far this term.
