The 29 year old is unhappy that ongoing contract talks have not been dealt with and though new boss Rafa Benitez is keen to keep hold of the Spanish international it appears the former Sevilla man may be ready to quit the La Liga side.

Jose Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini both know Ramos well from their spells in charge of Real Madrid and though a £50m price-tag has been placed on the player it’s clear that neither side would have any qualms about forking out the such a sum to sign such an accomplished defender.

Mourinho could see Ramos as a replacement for veteran John Terry whilst question marks over Vincent Kompany’s form, the Belgian being dropped for a spell towards the end of last season, may hasten a move for the World Cup winner.
