The 25 year old has impressed at Villa Park in 2014/15 but it’s perhaps his displays for the England national team that have garnered most plaudits.

Delph is now a regular in Roy Hodgson’s starting eleven and Tim Sherwood could face a battle to keep hold of the former Leeds United man.

Man City saw Frank Lampard’s loan spell come to an end in May and James Milner elected to join Liverpool so there is scope for a midfield signing and a move for Delph handily boosts the club’s ‘homwgrown’ quota to boot.

Aston Villa signed Delph in 2009 and the compact midfielder has made 128 appearances for the Midlands outfit.
