The 28-year-old stopper has also been rumoured to be in the plans of Tottenham Hotspur, should Hugo Lloris move to Old Trafford.

However, according to the Daily Mail, the trio of Premier League giants may well have to act quickly if they are to snare the Bosnian, with Villa having already made enquiries for the keeper.

The newspaper report that Tim Sherwood is hopeful that he could lure Begovic to Villa Park with the promise of first-team football, and clearly sees him as an upgrade on current incumbent, United States international Brad Guzman.

However, it remains to be seen whether Begovic would see a move to the Villains—who finished eight places and 16 points behind the Potters last season—as a forward step in his career.

He may yet be tempted by the prospect of playing for one of England’s genuine heavyweights.

Chelsea are likely to be in need of a goalkeeper following news that Petr Cech is on the brink of a move to Arsenal [BBC Sport]. The long-serving custodian played second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois last season, and should he move to Stamford Bridge, Begovic would surely be replacing Cech rather than usurping the Belgian.

United may well be in need of goalkeeping reinforcements, particularly if David De Gea completes his much-mooted move to Real Madrid [Mirror].

The Red Devils could call upon Victor Valdes, and should Begovic more to Old Trafford, there are no guarantees that he would be considered first choice ahead of the World Cup winner and Barcelona great.

One appealing option may be Spurs, who could well be looking for a replacement for Hugo Lloris if—as expected by the Metro—United make the Frenchman De Gea’s replacement at Old Trafford.
