Tim Sherwood’s Villains have agreed a £9 million deal for the player and appear to be in pole position to secure the much-sought after Senegal star’s services.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks.

According to the Daily Mail, there is interest in the player from both England and France, with Southampton, Crystal Palace and West Ham United, as well as Ligue 1 giants Olympique de Marseille all keen on signing him.

However, it looks like Villa are set to leave their transfer rivals disappointed, and will be confident that—considering Lille’s unhappy financial situation—a deal can be secured.

Southampton may feel particularly disappointed at having missed out on the player, with the Mail reporting that the Saints viewed the international as a potential replacement for Morgan Schneiderlin. The France international has been heavily linked with a move away from St. Mary’s Stadium, with United understood to be closing in on a transfer [talkSPORT].

In Gueye, Villa will be acquiring a powerful midfield operator who can both win back the ball in a destroyer role and keep things ticking over moving forward. He boasts adequate technical ability and is the kind of midfield general that can help the Birmingham heavyweights pull away from the relegation zone after a taxing 2014-15 campaign.

Gueye made 32 appearances for Les Dogues last season, scoring four goals and contributing two assists.
