Decision made: Defender chooses Arsenal over Southampton transfer

Promising youngster will be at Arsenal next season.

Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has reportedly decided to snub an offer to rejoin his old club Southampton on loan this summer, according to The Sun.

The England international had a mixed first season at the Emirates Stadium after joining from the Saints, initially starting out as a regular in the team before losing his place in the second half of the campaign.

Still only 20 years old, Chambers looks a great prospect and need not be disheartened by his losing his place in Arsene Wenger’s star-studded side, and it seems he has chosen to continue to fight for the chance to play for the Gunners’ first-team next season instead of moving back to his old club.

Southampton had been looking for a replacement right-back after selling Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool, but will now have to look elsewhere after failing to tempt Chambers with the offer of more regular playing time in the Premier League.

The youngster impressed in his first spell at the St Mary’s Stadium, earning his big move to Arsenal, and now he will hope he can beat Hector Bellerin to a place in Wenger’s side, or even challenge for a centre-back spot after some appearances there last term.

Arsenal are known for handing opportunities to young players to prove themselves, so the player may rightly feel he is in the right place to continue his development.
