Manchester United stars take to Twitter after pre-season triumph, including goalscorer Memphis Depay

Manchester United players Memphis Depay, Juan Mata and Andreas Pereira took to Twitter following the Red Devils’ 3-1 pre-season triumph over San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday.

The trio of players were individual in the victory, each scoring once as Louis van Gaal’s side continued their superb preparations.

The game was particularly special for Depay.

The Netherlands international—who featured under van Gaal for the national side—was signed by United earlier in the summer, but has taken some time to assert himself with the north-west giants.

He finally broke his duck against San Jose Earthquakes, scoring eight minutes before the break after capitalising on some dire defending from the Major League Soccer outfit.

The former PSV hitman, writing on his @Memphis Twitter handle after the match, shared a photo taken to mark the achievement.

By this point, United were already one to the good, with Juan Mata having fired the visitors in front early in the fist half. The Spanish former Chelsea midfielder took a moment after the match to congratulate his new teammate Depay for his goal-scoring achievements.

The Red Devils’ lead was halved by Fatai Alashe, although youngster Andreas Pereira made sure of victory with a second-half effort.

The Brazil U20 international took to Twitter after the match to express his delight at having found the net and guaranteed the triumph.

While United have won two of two so far during their tour of the States, they will do well to continue their 100 percent record when they meet reigning European champions Barcelona in Santa Clara this weekend [via BBC Sport].
