Man United ready to pay £16.9m to secure hugely talented fifth summer signing

Old Trafford side continue to pursue Barcelona star.

Man United are ready to fork out €24 (£16.9m) to land Barcelona forward Pedro, according to Spanish source AS.

Louis van Gaal has already enjoyed a busy summer transfer window; bringing in Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, and a move to bring in Pedro to boost the Old Trafford attack would certainly help to make up for the loss of Robin van Persie and Nani.

Pedro has found himself something of a bit-part performer at the Nou Camp with the arrival of Luis Suarez seriously hampering his progress at the Calatan outfit.

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique handed the 27-year-old just 15 La Liga starts in 2014/15, this despite the Tenerife born attacker finishing the previous campaign with 19 goals in all competitions. The arrival of Arda Turan may well further restrict Pedro’s involvement in first team matters.

Enrique saw his mouthwatering three-pronged attack of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar destroy all before them and Pedro will struggle to get a look-in next term.

Louis van Gaal likes to play a 4-3-3 formation and Pedro’s versatility, the cultured forward being able to fill central and wide roles, makes the Barcelona man potentially a very useful addition.
