Liverpool lead Premier League rivals in bid to sign Ligue 1 midfielder

Reds reportedly set to win midfielder chase.

Liverpool are said to be in pole position against fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout, according to French source L’Equipe.

The 22-year-old is considered a big prospect in French football, and another report in L’Equipe recently stated that Spurs were working on a deal to bring him to England for next season.

However, latest reports state that the player is concerned that there is too much competition in midfield at Tottenham, making Liverpool the new favourites to snap him up in yet another piece of business this summer.

The Merseyside giants have been busy revamping their squad in an effort to get back into the top four, with a number of big names coming into the club, such as Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings and James Milner.

Veretout looks another highly promising player who could add something to Brendan Rodgers’ team, with the club in need of more bodies in mifield after losing long-serving club captain Steven Gerrard at the end of last season.

Veretout looks a similar style of box-to-box player in the middle of the park, scoring eight goals and contributing 14 assists in all competitions since being introduced into the Nantes first-team in the last two seasons.
