Roma keen on €30m deal to sign Chelsea defender

AS Roma want to take Chelsea youngster Kurt Zouma on loan for the 2015-16 season.

The Frenchman proved key in the Blues’ title-winning campaign – making key starts in the Capital One Cup final and in victory over Manchester United last season – and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

Sport Mediaset [via Le 10 Sport] claim that Rudi Garcia, the Roma manager, has asked his club chiefs to negotiate a deal for the 20-year-old, and would be willing to pay €30m to secure his signature.

However, Jose Mourinho appears unlikely to allow Zouma to leave Stamford Bridge permanently, and, instead, a loan deal seems more likely, according to the report.

Nonetheless, with a deal for John Stones proving difficult to tie down [Daily Mail], the Blues may be left with only Gary Cahill and John Terry as their centre-backs this season, meaning that the loss of Zouma could prove problematic as the season progresses.

Roma defender Alessio Romagnoli has moved to Serie A rivals AC Milan [as per the club’s official website], and Zouma could be considered a replacement for the Italy international.

Last term, the Frenchman featured for Chelsea in the base of the midfield, as well as as a centre-back. However, with John Obi Mikel back in the side after overcoming the injury that affected his 2014-15 campaign, the Pensioners may have less need for Zouma in this role.
