Liverpool could lose long-serving midfielder to Champions League finalists

Liverpool could lose star midfielder Lucas Leiva to one of Serie A trio Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan, reports talkSPORT.

The 28-year-old was left out of the Reds’ match with Stoke City last week, and is unlikely to play any part of their match with Bournemouth on Monday night. This is despite being one of the better performers in their disappointing campaign last time round, when they finished a lowly sixth in the Premier League.

The recent signing of James Milner appears to have displaced the Brazilian after eight years of service to the Merseyside club. In that time Lucas has played 275 games, scoring six goals from defensive midfield. The Italian trio have seen enough to be impressed by the former Gremio man in this time, even if manager Brendan Rodgers hasn’t.

If the player leaves it is debatable whether the Anfield outfit will sign a replacement. They have already brought in Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Roberto Firmino, and Christian Benteke this summer, seemingly attempting to spend their way back in to the Champions League.
