Manchester United star tips new £36m arrival Anthony Martial to shine for the Red Devils

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney says he’s hopeful the club’s latest signing Anthony Martial will prove to be a valuable addition to the squad.

The 19-year-old completed a reported £36million transfer to the Red Devils from Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco on transfer deadline day earlier this week and his arrival has been a hot topic among football fans and those in the media.

Morgan Schneiderlin revealed that Rooney had no idea about who Martial was when United were initially linked with the teenager, but the England international says he was impressed with the youngster’s performance against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League last-16 tie at the Emirates Stadium last season:

“It’s been well documented I haven’t seen that much of him to be honest, so I can’t really say too much on him,” the 29-year-old admitted [via Sky Sports].

“I saw him last season against Arsenal where he had a fantastic game, so hopefully he’ll be a great signing for us. He’s got a lot of ability from what I’ve seen and I’m sure he’ll be a good player for us,” Rooney added.
