Manchester United expected to sign world-class forward in January

Manchester United expect to be able to complete the January signing of Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller, according to Fichajes via the Metro.

The 26-year-old German international has been in superb form of late, and is a player Allianz Arena boss Pep Guardiola would be loath to lose.

Muller, who can operate either in a wide or central striking role, has scored in excess of 20 goals in each of the past three seasons, proving himself to be a world-class operator, and has netted six goals in four Bundesliga appearances this term. He has also put in a series of superb displays for Joachim Low’s national team set-up, and would likely represent a magnificent signing for United.

Previous reports have addressed the concerns of Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge with regards to the pulling power of Premier League sides (via Daily Mail) and some reports suggest Man United saw a big-money bid for Muller turned down over the summer (Bild, again via the Daily Mail). Fichajes (via the Metro) now suggest the Old Trafford side are edging closer to capturing the versatile marksman.

Louis van Gaal knows the forward well from his time in charge of the German giants, the Dutch boss handing the World Cup winner an extended run in the first-team set-up during his tender years, and the capture of the Bayern Munich star would greatly improve Man United’s options in the final third.
