Real Madrid want TWO England strikers in January to turn around flagging campaign

According to reports in Spain, Rafael Benitez is looking to invest in his Real Madrid side in January as he looks to help the Merengues close the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona.

The Blancos were humiliated in the Spanish top flight last weekend when the Catalonian giants ran out 4-0 winners. Not only was Barcelona’s performance a mastery of attacking football—with the likes of Luis Suarez and  Andres Iniesta particularly superb—they also humiliated their fierce rivals by picking up the convincing win at the Bernabeu, the home of their bitter enemies.

El Mundo [via Le 10 Sport] reports that a combination of Madrid’s disastrous showing at the weekend and a recent injury to Karim Benzema will prompt Benitez to splash the cash during the January transfer window.

Accord to the Spanish source, he has his sights set on Premier League and England pair Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane.

Leicester City forward Vardy has emerged as one of the stars of the current campaign, scoring 13 goals in 13 games and equalising a record for scoring in consecutive matches previously held exclusively by Ruud van Nistelrooy.

As such, Vardy has received international recognition and looks well place to make England’s squad for next summer’s European Championships.

Similarly, Kane, who has overcome a slow start to the season to bag eight goals in 13 games so far this term, is understood to be under consideration by Barca.

This news may prompt Manchester United—rumoured admirers of both players—to firm up their interest in either of the England pair.
