Arsenal line up move for Swiss international midfielder Granit Xhaka

Arsenal are said to be keeping a close watch on the form of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka ahead of a possible move for the player in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

Having seen his midfield decimated by injuries to Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla, Arsene Wenger is said to be keeping his eye on a number of options ahead of the window opening in just over two weeks time.

And Xhaka has apparently caught the manager’s eye after putting in a number of impressive performances in both the Bundesliga and Champions League this term, however, they may also face some stiff competition from Bayern Munich, who are also being credited with an interest in his signature.

The 23-year-old would offer Wenger a versatile option through the middle as he can perform as both an out-and-out defensive midfielder as well as taking up a more deep lying playmaker role.

And when taking Arsenal’s injury concerns into consideration, Arsenal could do much worse than spring a move for the talented Swiss international.
