Man United transfer roundup: Mata sale, Lewandowski latest, Benfica starlet

Posted by

After losing 2-1 to Norwich City, Manchester United have now dropped out of the top four for the first time since late August. It seems that even the magic of Anthony Martial just isn’t enough to keep this club afloat anymore, and it could very well cost Louis van Gaal his job before the end of the season – or even before the end of the month.

Unless Van Gaal can right the ship and prove he knows what he is doing though, it’s unlikely that even his biggest transfer target will be able to orchestrate a turnaround in time to make up the points they’ve given up.

Here is the Man United transfer roundup for Saturday:

Fears of Mata leaving if Mourinho arrives

Amidst rumours that former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is vying for the job at Old Trafford, Man United fans and pundits are concerned that his previously icy relationship with star midfielder Juan Mata will lead to the Spanish star’s departure if he takes the job. [Source: Squawka]

Robert Lewandowski open to Bayern Munich exit

The Polish striker, one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, has been sensational for the German giants this year but is reportedly open to leaving. While Man United are believed to be offering £35 million for him, they will likely still face a challenge from Real Madrid. [Source: Daily Star]

Renato Sanches

Already eyeing Benfica wonderkid Goncalo Guedes, Man United have set their sights on Benfica’s 18-year-old midfielder Renato Sanches. He has played several times in the Champions League and recorded his first Primeira Liga goal earlier this month. [Source: Don Balon]
