STATS: Arsenal superstar sets incredible scoring mark in dominating game

It has become almost a given that Arsenal star winger Mesut Ozil will be a candidate for Premier League Player of the Season given his incredible number of assists this year. Against Bournemouth on Monday Ozil added to that total with another assist (to Gabriel) and a somewhat rare goal of his own. But what the more obvious stats will not show is that Ozil had one of the most dominant performances of the year.

According to stats from the Metro and OptaJoe, Ozil created an astounding nine scoring chances for the Gunners in the 2-0 victory on Monday, which was the most by any player in the Premier League this season. To also put the number into perspective, the average number of chances by a midfielder has been around 1.5 per game.

The performance gave Ozil three goals and an incredible 16 assists this season – by far the most assists by any player in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

The 2-0 win over Bournemouth also sent Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table, overtaking Leicester City by one point ahead of the Foxes’ match against Manchester City.
