David de Gea Real Madrid: La Liga giants confirm £40m plan to sign Man United stopper

Posted by

Manchester United almost allowed star goalkeeper David de Gea to leave this past summer in a swap deal with Real Madrid, however some faulty paperwork prevented the deal from going through at the last minute. Despite reportedly pledging not to work with Man United anymore, Real Madrid appear ready to make another run at De Gea and bring him to Spain.

According to the Daily Star, Real Madrid plan to pay £40 million to trigger the buy-out clause in De Gea’s contract to secure his release this summer, but will not try to get him this January.

The source quoted a Real Madrid spokesman who said, “Real Madrid will not attempt to sign David De Gea in the January window. But the club is proposed to sign him in the summer for next season.”

This past summer Real Madrid tried to get De Gea in a £29 million deal that was believed to include Keylor Navas as part of the exchange, but the deal fell through. Shortly after, Man United signed De Gea to a multi-year contract extension to keep him at Old Trafford.

De Gea has been vital to Man United staying in the top ten on the table this season, recording seven clean sheets in the first half of the season – several of which occurred in 0-0 draws for the club.
