Michail Antonio goal video: Controversy as West Ham break deadlock to leave Liverpool aggrieved

West Ham United took a 1-0 lead over Liverpool in their clash at Upton Park on Saturday as Michail Antonio broke the deadlock for the hosts.

However, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will be far from impressed with the foul that wasn’t given on Alberto Moreno after this challenge from Antonio in the build-up to the goal.

Referee Robert Madley failed to spot the foul on the Spaniard, which in turn led to the hosts breaking down the other end of the pitch. Slaven Bilic’s side then took advantage of some lazy defending from the Liverpool backline as Antonio stole a march on his marker to open the scoring.

Nevertheless, the talking point will be the failure to call the foul on Moreno, which in turn led to the Hammers having the space down the right flank to find the breakthrough.

Liverpool sat five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham ahead of kick-off, and Klopp will be desperate to see a positive reaction from his players in order to put the pressure on their rivals.

Meanwhile, a win for West Ham would lift them above their opponents and into fifth place ahead of the rest of the Premier League fixtures this weekend.
