Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he will speak with Mario Balotelli’s agent regarding the Italian striker’s future at the club.
The 25-year-old is currently on loan at former club AC Milan until the end of the season, and while Klopp insisted that the immediate focus is on the January transfer window, he plans to sit down with the striker’s representatives and discuss his plans for the previously out-of-favour forward.
Balotelli endured a miserable spell at Anfield following his arrival from Milan in 2014, and so returned to Italy in a bid to rediscover his best form.
Having made an impressive start to life in his second spell at the San Siro with regards to his overall performance and maturity, a troublesome groin injury required surgery prior to the winter break and in turn has restricted the Italian international to just four league appearances so far this season.
While he will hope to return from the setback this month, it remains to be seen whether or not he does enough to impress the Rossoneri to ensure that they are interested in making his move a permanent one.
However, with Brendan Rodgers no longer at the helm at Anfield, Klopp appeared open to the idea of giving Balotelli another opportunity on Merseyside, based on his comments in his press conference on Monday afternoon.
The former Inter star was a revelation during his first stint in England with Manchester City as he helped the club win the Premier League title in 2012. While he will have a similar aim if he does return to Liverpool, it is unclear at this stage as to whether or not Klopp has space for him in his current squad.
