Ex-Tottenham striker wanted by former club; hitman weighs in on transfer rumours

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has insisted that his side will not sell striker Jermain Defoe despite interest from Bournemouth.

The 33-year-old forward is enjoying a purple patch of form in the Premier League, and has established himself as Sunderland’s leading man after a nine-goal spell.

He scored twice to down Aston Villa last weekend as Sunderland secured a valuable victory in the battle to remain in the top flight, and looks set to be a key figure in any hopes the Black Cats have of evading relegation.

However, his form is understood to have caught the eye of Bournemouth, with Cherries manager Eddie Howe understood to be considering the veteran to help his own side’s battle against the drop.

Defoe featured for the south-coast side on loan earlier in his career, scoring a whopping 18 goals in 29 outings.

However, responding to the transfer rumours, as per the Mirror, the ex-Tottenham striker appeared to indicate that he had no intention of leaving the Stadium of Light.

“January? Committed? Of course,” the England international confirmed emphatically. Good news for Sunderland fans, but Bournemouth may have to look elsewhere.
