His goal undoubtedly gave Milan the lift that they needed in such an important game, as having struggled against all the top teams so far this season, they were finally able to end their barren run.
Substitute Kevin-Prince Boateng added a second for the hosts as Fiorentina continued to struggle to carve out goalscoring opportunities. Nevertheless, the hosts deserved plenty of credit for a resolute defensive display which saw them press high up the pitch and put the Viola under pressure when in possession.
While the win will come as a welcome boost for Sinisa Mihajlovic given that the Milan coach has been under significant pressure in recent weeks, it was another disappointing result for Paulo Sousa.
The Portuguese tactician has seen his side slip to back-to-back league defeats as their Scudetto charge continues to lose momentum, and coupled with wins for the likes of Napoli and Juventus this weekend, they have lost further ground on their rivals.
