Barcelona line up shock move for ex-Chelsea flop Fernando Torres

Barcelona are said to be lining up a surprise move to sign former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, according to Spanish publication AS.

Despite having arguably the world’s most fearsome strike trio at the disposal in the shape of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, they are aware that they have no backup options available should injuries strike.

Torres has not ben anywhere near his best for several years now, but that isn’t thought to be enough to enough to deter the Catalan giants, who AS claim are gearing up to sign on a free transfer.

Currently on loan with Atletico Madrid from Italian giants AC Milan, it would appear that the side from the capital are not set on keeping him permanently.

And it has been suggested that Barcelona’s only competition for Torres’ signature would come from the United States, which has cast some doubt over the deal, especially after his agent this week claimed that Torres would soon receive an offer to make him the world’s highest paid player.
