Transfer odds: What are the bookies saying about the biggest potential deadline-beating deals?

Posted by

There are less than three days left in the January transfer window, but history has shown us that is enough time for plenty of big deals to happen in the Premier League.

And – because you never meet a poor bookmaker, as the saying goes – SkyBet’s transfer odds are a pretty good gauge of what moves might go through before Monday’s deadline.

Here is their take on the biggest potential deals, while CaughtOffside also offers our verdict on which of these big names will be staying put and which will be on the move…

Alex Teixeira

Liverpool are on the drift to sign the Brazilian attacker, having been odds-on earlier in the window before Shakhtar Donetsk reportedly slapped a £50m-plus price tag on the 26-year-old.

But, as these odds suggest, the Reds are the only team in for Teixeira, and he is believed to be their number-one target, so there could be some room for more movement prior to deadline day.

Verdict: Save your money until the summer

Mathieu Debuchy

It is public knowledge that Debuchy is free to leave Arsenal on loan this month after losing his place to Hector Bellerin. The Frenchman wants to play regularly to boost his Euro 2016 hopes.

Sunderland are the odds-on favourites to sign the 30-year-old, but Sam Allardyce might have other transfer priorities and it could be that Debuchy settles for relegation-doomed Villa late on.

Verdict: A couple of quid on Villa could be worthwhile

Loic Remy

SkyBet seem to think that Remy to Leicester City is almost a foregone conclusion. It makes sense – the Foxes are after a striker to aid their title charge and the Frenchman is barely playing at Chelsea.

Newcastle United and Crystal Palace have previously been in the running, but the Foxes are the clear frontrunners to sign the France international, whether on loan or on a permanent deal.

Verdict: There is no value here

Jamie Vardy

The bookies are very confident that Vardy will be staying at the King Power Stadium to spearhead Leicester’s title bid, despite his form attracting attention from the Premier League’s elite.

But the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool seem to have accepted that the England international won’t be sold this January and have moved onto other targets, much to the relief of Foxes supporters.

Verdict: The big clubs have given up the chase

Saido Berahino

Berahino’s name has dominated the last couple of transfer windows and yet SkyBet suggest that he will remain with West Bromwich Albion once more, despite interest from three of four different clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur have been heading the race for some time, although Newcastle seem to be showing the most ambition to sign the striker. That matters little if Albion chairman Jeremy Peace stands firm.

Verdict: Tottenham or nowhere for the Baggies rebel
