Considered one of the fastest rising forwards in Brazil, Santos starlet Gabriel Barbosa has been dubbed ‘the next Neymar’ by some. Having missed out on several of South America’s best young stars in the past, Chelsea are the leaders among several clubs that are seeking to beat Barcelona to the punch and land the young superstar.
According to the Sun, Chelsea are weighing up a transfer move for the 19-year-old Barbosa, who has a £40 million buyout clause. Per the source, Barcelona have first choice at signing Barbosa until 2018, but are not guaranteed to pull the trigger. Manchester United and Arsenal have also been named as possible suitors for the Brazilian teen.
Barbosa has recorded 46 goals in 128 appearances for Santos, and per the Metro he scored over 600 goals for the Brazilian giants at the youth level – which he joined at age eight. Barbosa made his senior debut for the club at age 16 and has already been capped four times for Brazil’s Under-23 team – scoring six goals in the process.
