You aren’t imagining things – this is the real Dele Alli, you know the one who has made a mockery of the Premier League in his first season with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 20-year-old produced quite possibly the miss of the season in last night’s 4-0 thrashing of Stoke City. Alli did all of the hard work, turning away from his defender and rounding Potters keeper Shay Given, only to stumble on his feet and shunt the ball into the base of the post!

His reaction, dropping face first into the turf with head in hands, only tells half the story. The other half is that Alli scored two brilliant goals either side of this gaffe to help Spurs close the gap on Leicester City to five points, and send an emphatic message to their title rivals.

Alli has 10 league goals for the campaign – many of them efforts of supreme skill and technique. But last night, and the recent England international against Germany, in which he was man of the match, proved that he has an unfortunate penchant for unexplainable misses!

Still, Tottenham will take the bad with the good because there has been far more of the latter this season from the overwhelming favourite for PFA Young Player of the Year.
