Jurgen Klopp satisfies fans by outlining Liverpool summer transfer plans

Get ready Liverpool fans, because the Jurgen Klopp era begins in earnest this summer when the Reds manager gets full control of the transfer purse. And if recent reports of the players on Klopp’s transfer list are accurate, there will be plenty of excitement at Anfield. This week though, the Liverpool boss personally outlined how he plans to attack the summer transfer window.

Klopp stated this week that he intends to make defence a priority this summer in the wake of the team’s struggles with conceding late leads and the potential ban for star centre-back Mamadou Sakho.

‘When you build up a team, you start with the defence – that’s how it is,’ Klopp said, per the Metro. ‘It keeps you in the game and gives you the opportunity to score once and win the game.

Liverpool have already agreed to terms with Schalke back Joel Matip and will bring him to Anfield this summer, but several other targets have also been on Klopp’s transfer list including Neven Subotic.

‘I’m never happy with conceding goals, to be honest.

‘It’s clear it’s how we build up a team and that’s one of the biggest targets for the next season – not for the rest of this season but for next season and then to build up a stability in this part of the game.

‘We had different problems in this and we solved a lot of them already. Set-pieces were the worst, to be honest. It’s a part of the game where we needed to improve and we did.’

Liverpool have recorded a clean sheet just three times in the Premier League since the start of 2016, so Klopp likely feels that he needs even more reinforcements on defence to win those close games.
