Arsenal midfielder being monitored by experienced coach ahead of big summer decision

According to the Mirror, Roy Hodgson is keeping close tabs on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as he looks to finalise his squad for the European Championships this summer.

The versatile Arsenal midfielder has endured another injury-hit campaign, and as such, his chances of representing England in France this summer would appear to be slim.

The tabloid’s information, however, that Hodgson is making regular checks on the 22-year-old, and requesting frequent fitness updates suggests that he still remains firmly in the coach’s plans.

However, the Mirror’s report could be interpreted in two ways; one the one hand, it indicates that Oxlade-Chamberlain remains in the running, but also suggests that he still has much to prove if he is to force his way into Hodgson’s crowded midfield options.

The Gunners starlet was named in the England squad for the European Championships four years ago, but missed out on the 2014 World Cup due to injury.

He’s missed an awful lot of football during these last two formative years, managing just 22 EPL outings this season, of which only nine have been starts.
