Chelsea transfer news: Conte eyes rival’s superstar as move for Serie A target falters

Although his more immediate focus is on Euro 2016, incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will be keeping a close eye on matters at Stamford Bridge.

Here are the latest developments in the summer transfer market for the Premier League giants…

Valencia tell Chelsea to shell out £42m for midfielder

The La Liga outfit have reportedly made it clear that they want £42m for Andre Gomes, according to The Mirror, with Benfica owed part of the sell-on fee.

Although the 22-year-old is undoubtedly talented, it remains to be seen whether or not Chelsea are willing to spend such a significant transfer fee on him given that he’s relatively untested at the top level.

Nainggolan promises to stay at Roma

It’s no secret that Conte wants the Belgian international with him in London next season, but according to Roma boss Luciano Spalletti, that isn’t going to happen.

“He’s promised me that he’s going to stay here,” said the Roma boss, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He wants to carry on playing in the position where he’s playing under me.”

West Ham concern over Payet

According to The Mirror, the Hammers are concerned that Dimitri Payet could seek a new challenge next season, as he continues to play a starring role at Euro 2016.

Chelsea scouts have reportedly urged Conte to make a move for the French international, although they are expected to face competition from Real Madrid.

Cuadrado to be given another chance

Having impressed during his loan spell with Juventus last season, the Colombian wideman could be given another opportunity to shine at Stamford Bridge.

Conte is ready to give him a chance, as noted by The Daily Mail, and he is likely to fit into the Italian’s plans to implement a 3-5-2 system at the club next season.

Chelsea could target another defender

With Antonio Rudiger said to be topping Conte’s list of defensive targets, another Serie A star has emerged as an option.

According to Mediaset, Inter defender Juan Jesus could be London bound this summer, and it is claimed that he is a genuine alternative to Rudiger who suffered a serious knee injury prior to Euro 2016.
