Jurgen Klopp revolution continues as new Liverpool signing finally confirmed

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Joel Matip on a free transfer after his previous deal with Schalke expired.

The centre-back has been forced to wait to confirm his arrival at Anfield as his deal with the Bundesliga outfit wound down, but having seen it come to an end, he’s now been officially announced as a Liverpool player.

The 24-year-old will look forward to taking part in pre-season training with his new team-mates at Melwood, with Jurgen Klopp getting preparations underway on Saturday.

Given Kolo Toure’s departure and Martin Skrtel’s imminent exit, the Reds needed to bolster their options in central defence and have done so with an astute signing.

Klopp revealed earlier this year that he was delighted with the acquisition, and will now look to help the Cameroonian international continue to develop into a top-level defender.

It promises to be a busy summer for Liverpool, with Klopp already bringing in Loris Karius, Marko Grujic and Sadio Mane.

As the German tactician continues to prepare for his first full campaign in charge of the Premier League giants, there will undoubtedly be more new faces to come.
