Chelsea are hopeful of signing the Santos wonder-kid Gabriel Barbosa – nicknamed Gabigol – over the summer transfer window.
According to the Mirror newspaper the Blues are locked in a race with the Serie A giants Juventus to sign the Brazilian international striker. The tabloid paper states that Chelsea have tabled a £25 million bid for Barbosa to fend off competition from Juve.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian club Santos are attempting to persuade Barbosa to remain at the club and extend his contract for another two years.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte seems keen to furthur boost his attacking options despite signing £33m Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille and convincing Diego Costa will stay, despite interest from Atletico Madrid.
Barbosa is rated as one of the most exciting Brazilian prospect and Santos have a history of developing future stars such as Barcelona forward Neymar.
The Brazilian international has scored 22 times in 78 Brazilian Serie A matches for Santos – 54 times in 148 matches in all competitions.
