Chelsea transfer news: 28-time international who scored twice in pre-season leaves Blues but striker signs deal

Chelsea today gave a new three-year contract to 20-year-old striker Bertrand Traore.

That news was confirmed on the club’s official website, while it was simultaneously revealed that Traore would be leaving Stamford Bridge to join Ajax on a season-long loan deal.

After making his Chelsea debut in September last year, Traore made 16 first-team appearances in all competitions, scoring four times.

Traore had a decent preseason with the Blues senior side, finding the net in wins over Wolfsberger AC and Milan.

The Burkina Faso international, who has been capped 28 times by his country, is now set for a second season in Holland.

He spent the half of the 2013-14 campaign and the entirety of the following season on loan at Vitesse, for whom he scored 20 times in 51 appearances.

Considering 36-year-old Dirk Kuyt scored 19 league goals in Holland last season, Traore could well produce big numbers this term, especially now that he is playing for a title-challenger, rather than a midtable side like Vitesse.
