Chelsea summer spending to exceed £200m as Conte plots to splash £125m on two key men

Chelsea have only signed two senior players so far this summer, with N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi arriving for a combined sum of £63m according to The Mirror.

However, more spending is reportedly on the cards, because The Express claim that Antonio Conte is planning to splash another £140m before the transfer window closes.

The Express suggest that £15m of the expected splurge will be allocated to landing 19-year-old Brazilian midfielder Thiago Maia, leaving the remaining £125m to secure Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.

One assumes that Maia would be a squad player at best – for this season, at least – but Koulibaly and Lukaku would likely be key men were they to join Conte’s Blues.

Lukaku, 23, scored 18 Premier League goals last term – more than any Chelsea player, while Koulibaly was a rock at the heart of a Napoli backline that kept 15 Serie A clean sheets.

The Express report that a £42m bid from Chelsea for Lukaku was rejected last week.
