Liverpool boss reveals why ‘hard’ midfielder wasn’t used during Burnley defeat

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed why he didn’t call upon Emre Can during Liverpool’s 2-0 at the hands of Burnley.

According to the Guardian, the 22-year-old is currently carrying a back injury. Can was one of the stars of the season for the Red’s last term but is yet to start in the news season.

The Germany international made an appearance off the bench against Arsenal but was an unused substitute away to Burnley. Klopp also described Can as a ‘hard’ midfielder.

“Emre Can was on the bench, he had a back problem, Lucas Leiva is injured and you ask me for a hard midfield player?” Klopp told reporters from the Guardian.

The 22-year-old has struggled for match fitness after returning to pre-season training later than most of his teammates after an extended break following Euro 2016.

Can enjoyed trips to Turkey to meet family and the US before returning to team training.
