Arsenal’s interest in Roma midfielder has little susbstance

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Roma’s Leandro Paredes in the Sun, a move which doesn’t really add up.

Firstly, Arsenal are very well stocked in the defensive midfielder position. Between Francis Coquelin, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey, there are a huge number of players of differing styles available to fill the gaps.

Secondly, Paredes is likely to be extremely expensive, which will put Arsene Wenger off. The Argentine has a contract till 2019, and his excellent performances for Roma this year will be raising his price constantly.

Roma do not sell players lightly – look at what happened to Manchester United in their multiple year pursuit of Kevin Strootman. Kostas Manolas has also been linked with Premier League clubs before, but the team from the Eternal City are never under pressure to sell.

A move to the Emirates just doesn’t look likely at this point. Things may change if Arsenal look to replace Santi Cazorla in the summer, but for now this looks like a very long shot.
