Liverpool handed huge transfer boost as €25m target’s future in real doubt

Roma ace and Liverpool transfer target Leandro Paredes reportedly faces an uncertain future in the Italian capital and could move on this summer.

In the short-term, the Argentine midfielder is expected to step in and play a crucial role for Luciano Spalletti’s side after Daniele De Rossi picked up an injury. That in turn opens up a spot for him in midfield to impress, starting against Empoli on Sunday.

However, as per Calciomercato, the 22-year-old will be assessed over the next two months to determine whether or not he has a long-term future at the Stadio Olimpico with Liverpool previously credited with holding an interest in signing him.

There could be widespread changes within the Giallorossi set-up this summer, and so certain players risk being moved on at the end of the season, with that group including Paredes. Coupled with his indifferent performances this season, it looks as though he could struggle to convince the club’s hierarchy.

Given Roma continue to struggle financially in that they are forced to sell a top player most summers to balance their books, the same question is expected to be asked in the next few months, according to the report.

Paredes is said to be valued at around €25m, and given that the priority will likely be to keep first-team regulars and pivotal figures in Kostas Manolas and Radja Nainggolan, if Roma can receive €25m for Paredes then they will likely be inclined to take it.

With regards to Liverpool’s interest, Jurgen Klopp will undoubtedly be keen to strengthen his squad where possible this summer as they continue to battle for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Midfield is an area where he could do with reinforcements, but time will tell if the Merseyside giants are ready to part with €25m to sign Paredes.
