Man Utd favourites to land defensive ace, Tottenham eye player-exchange

Man Utd are reportedly leading the race to sign Tottenham left-back Danny Rose, with Mauricio Pochettino eyeing up potential replacements.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a great start to the season as he continued to establish himself as a pivotal figure in Tottenham’s success before injury disrupted his campaign.

In turn, Rose made just 21 appearances in all competitions this past year, but it doesn’t appear as though that has put interested parties off.

According to The Mirror, the England international is keen on a return up north, and in turn Man Utd look as though they’re ready to swoop. Manchester City have also been linked with a move, but it’s suggested that Pep Guardiola will look at Monaco star Benjamin Mendy instead.

It looks as though Tottenham could face a real struggle to keep hold of their best players this summer, just as many pundits predicted and feared when they fell short of the Premier League and FA Cup this season.

The report adds that Kyle Walker has also been linked with a move to City, and so Pochettino could be facing the damaging prospect of losing both his first-choice full-backs this summer.

However, the Mirror notes that he could look to be creative with negotiations for Rose, as Luke Shaw could move in the opposite direction.

The 21-year-old has had a nightmare spell at Old Trafford on the whole, suffering with injury problems and being publicly criticised by his managers over the last two years.

In turn, he could welcome the opportunity of a fresh start in London with Tottenham and the chance of a reunion with Pochettino following their time together at Southampton.

While he remains a possibility, it’s added that Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon is also a target for Spurs, but it remains to be seen firstly if they can keep hold of their top stars this summer, or if they are forced to consider their options in the transfer market.
