(Video) Delightful Antonio Candreva assist slices AC Milan open as Inter draw first blood

Inter drew first blood in the Milan derby with Mauro Icardi scoring a typical Mauro Icardi goal through a superb assist from Antonio Candreva.

The Italian winger has been criticised in recent weeks for his crossing and distribution in the final third, as he has been falling short of his previous high standards.

However, he got this delivery spot on as he whipped in a brilliant cross to evade the boot of Leonardo Bonucci as Icardi expertly diverted it into the back of the net just as the Argentine striker has done on countless previous occasions.

Inter were undoubtedly the better side in the opening 45 minutes, with Milan lacking any sort of real aggression or flow to their play to trouble their rivals.

In turn, with Luciano Spalletti’s side aiming to open up a 10-point gap over their city rivals with a win, the pressure will be firmly on the shoulders of Vincenzo Montella to shuffle things around at the half-time interval to change the pattern of the game.

Having fallen short in big tests against Lazio, Sampdoria or Roma so far this season, the last thing Milan would want is another loss as they continue to lose ground in the race for a Champions League qualification spot.
